President Mohamud Opens Somali Studies Congress In Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Sunday inaugurated the 15th Somali Studies International Association Congress in Mogadishu.
The congress, which opened for the first time in 34 years was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, SSIA and Somali National University.
Over 300 participants including academic researchers, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, civil society members, private sector representatives, students and other invited guests attended the opening ceremony of the congress which will run from 15 to 18th of this month.
The theme of the 15th SSIA Congress, titled “Reconstructing and Developing the Somali Nation.”
The congress is expected to achieve various outcomes including; publication of congress proceedings that include all presented research papers, serving as a vital resource for ongoing scholarly discourse and policy development in Somali studies.
The second expected outcome is the creation of initiatives aimed at promoting Somali culture, language, and literature, as well as revamping the education system to align with nation-building goals.
Also, the congress is expected to develop strategies and programs focused on promoting peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution as part of the broader nation and state building agenda.
Lastly, it will set up a mechanism to regularly review and assess the progress made in implementing the congressʼs recommendations, ensuring accountability and sustained focus on nation and state building.
