President Mohamud Urges Closer Role for Elders in Unity, Reconciliation Efforts
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for a stronger role for traditional elders in promoting unity and reconciliation, during a meeting with a delegation from Puntland in Mogadishu.
Speaking at the Villa Somalia presidential palace, President Mohamud said elders remain central to peace building and community engagement, urging closer cooperation between traditional leaders and government institutions to address local challenges.
He emphasized that his administration is committed to working with elders to strengthen reconciliation efforts, improve service delivery and support stability across the country.
The president said sustained collaboration with traditional leadership structures would be key to fostering trust between communities and the state, particularly in regions facing political and security pressures.
Elders who attended the meeting expressed readiness to support national efforts aimed at consolidating peace and advancing development.
The engagement comes as Somalia navigates ongoing political tensions and security challenges, with authorities increasingly relying on community-based approaches to reinforce stability and national cohesion.
