Puntland courts hand death sentences to eight Shabaab operatives

GOOBJOOG NEWS|PUNTLAND: A military court in Puntland has sentenced eight men to death for their membership to the outlawed Al-Shabaab militant group.

The courts sitting in Mudug and Ayn regions found the eight guilty of Al-Shabaab membership. According to the verdict, the court noted that the eight were members of the Al-Shabaab intelligence unit, Amniyat and had been involved in bombings and assassinations in Galkaayo.

The verdicts come barely a week after Puntland executed 21 Al-Shabaab militants for various attacks in the state for 13 years as per the court verdicts.

Out of the 21, the majority of them (18) faced the firing squad while the three others were executed in Garowe and Qardho.
