Puntland Military Court sentences 4 young men to death, 2 to harsh prison sentences

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: The Puntland Armed Forces Court has sentenced four young men to death and two others to lengthy prison terms- as long as 30 years, after they were found guilty of being members of Al-Shabaab, and were involved in a series of killings in Galkayo.

According to the court, the youths, all said to be 19 years old, were linked to the group from 2017 to 2021, and were responsible for the killings of several people last year in Galkayo.

Farhan Feisal Salad, Abdullahi Feisal Hussein, Barkhad Awil Hirsi Nur and Liban Adan Muse, were all sentenced by the Puntland Military Court to death by firing squad.

Abdi Qani Farhan Abdullahi and Abdirahman Awil Mohamed were both handed 30 and 20-year jail sentences respectively.

Below are the names of the victims the six are accused of killing:

1: Colonel Abdirashid Hashi (Gebigebi) the former Commander of the Mudug Regional Administration.

2: Major Gani Abdirahman Nur

3: MP Mukhtar Omar Ahmed Tiinle

4: MP Abdihakin Moalim Dahir

5: Ibrahim Sheikh Hassan Iro

6: Yusuf Mohamed Hayir

7: Lieutenant Colonel Hashi Aden Elmi (Farey)

8: Lieutenant Osman Hussein Ismail

9: Said Jama Mohamed (Said Maradona)

10: Abdi Jama Hassan (Abdi Gubbe)

Defendants in the case have been given a period of 30 days to appeal the sentence.
