Puntland Military Court sentences 4 Al-Shabaab members to death over several assassinations in Bosaso

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: The Puntland Armed Forces Court has on Tuesday sentenced four members of Al-Shabaab to death after they were found guilty of carrying out a series of bombings and assassinations in Bosaso, and for being members of the ISIS and Al-Shabaab networks.

During their arraignment in court on Monday, the four pleaded guilty to charges including the assassination attempt on the Puntland Head of State in Bosaso in February, where two soldiers were killed and four others were wounded in a landmine blast.

The four men also pleaded guilty to the killing of traditional elder Bashir Muse Konte, inside a mosque in Bosaso in March 2019 and the recent killing of two chief election officials in the same town. 

The four, identified as Ayub Omar Shire, Jama Adan Tusbahle, Abdullahi Salad Booos Mohange and Mohamed Abshir Muse Olyo, are also accused of their involvement in the attack that took place in Bosaso prison last year.

The court said the four initially executed their terrorist activities in the name of ISIS, but later switched allegiance to Al-Shabaab.

The court also announced the group’s hit list in Bosaso which included government officials, members of the military, businessmen and traditional leaders.
