Puntland president escapes assasination attempt in Bosaso

GOOBJOOG NEWS/GAROWE: Reports emerging from Bosaso say that an explosion took place Monday morning targeting a military convoy carrying Puntland state president Said Abdullahi Deni, while entering the port city.

According to security officials, at least 2 Puntland soldiers were killed and four others were injured in the landmine explosion which occurred s they were entering Bosaso. 

Witnesses at the scene said the remote-controlled landmine, which seemed to target President Deni, went off shortly after the Puntland President’s car passed, damaging the bulletproof vehicle behind him.

Today’s explosion is the 2nd in the coastal city this week ahead of the Lower House election.

Al-Shabaab has taken to the group’s website and announced that it was responsible for the attack aimed at President Deni.
