#COVID19: Puntland closes border with Somaliland, bans exports-imports

Puntland has closed its borders with Somaliland and banned trade with the neighboring break-away region in the wake of the deadly COVID-19.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement Friday the border with Somaliland will remain closed from Saturday (today) and that all import and export business will cease.

The Ministry also directed business people against exporting goods to Somaliland noting ‘there is need for sufficient supplies’ for the people of Puntland. Some of the affected sectors include khat import from Somaliland which is sourced from neighbouring Ethiopia.
