Registration for Somaliland Senate candidates kicks off

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Registration for candidates in the upcoming senate elections for Somaliland kicked off Saturday ahead of elections next week.

The exercise which was supposed to commence on Thursday over what an election official said was a result of delayed clearance of candidates by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Sa’id Abdi Hussein was the first to be registered for the upcoming race. Somaliland, like Puntland, will be electing 11 senators while the other Federal Member States are allocated eight seats.

Voting for the 11 senators will run from September 29 through to 30.
