Residents in Geriley locality face dire humanitarian conditions
The administration of Geriley locality in Gedo region reports deteriorating humanitarian situation in the area.
The administrator of Geriley Aar Mohamud Mohamed speaking to Goobjoog FM said thousands of people living in the areas between Bu’ale district and Geriley locality of middle Juba and Gedo regions respectively face poor humanitarian conditions adding that they desperate for immediate help.
Mr. Aar noted that at least eight people mostly children and elderly people died to hunger and thirst and many others are faced with similar dangers if urgent life saving support is not delivered to the in the locality and its outskirts.
“ If emergency support is not delivered to the drought hit people living in the area, other people might die due to hunger” Mr. Aar said.
He added that his administration has saved the lives of over 25 people, pastoralists who were about to die after missing food to eat and water for consumption.
He urged the federal government of Somalia, well-wishers and humanitarian aid agencies to convey emergency food aid to affected residents in area.
