Senior Somali Military Officer Graduates from Egypt’s War College

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Senior Somali military officer Brig. Gen. Masud Mohamed Warsame has graduated from Egypt’s Military Academy for Higher Studies and Strategy after completing advanced studies at the country’s prestigious War College.

The graduation marks another step in Somalia’s efforts to strengthen the professional capacity of its armed forces through advanced military education and international training partnerships.

Warsame joins a growing number of senior Somali officers who have received specialised military training abroad as the Somali National Army continues reforms aimed at enhancing leadership, operational planning and strategic capabilities.

The Somali military said the officer has played a key role in operations against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency in the country for more than a decade.

Egypt has emerged as an increasingly important security partner for Somalia, providing military training and defence cooperation as Mogadishu works to build the capabilities of its security forces and assume greater responsibility for national security.
