‘Several’ Foreigners Killed in Operations Against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan Region- Jeyte

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIIRAAN: Presidential envoy in charge of the Community Defense Forces Ali Jeyte has said that ‘several’ foreigners fighting for Al-Shabaab were killed in recent operations against the group in Hiiraan region.

Jeyte told journalists Saturday that a joint operation bringing together the Maawisley militia and government forces destroyed several Al-Shabaab hideouts in the mountain areas of Hiiraan region killing several Al-Shabaab fighters among them foreigners.

“I want to share with the Somali people that during the operations that took place, non-Somali foreigners were killed in the mountains. It is impossible for me to live there. A foreigner whose whereabouts are unknown died in the mountains yesterday,” Jeyte said.

Several foreign fighters have in recent weeks been killed in separate operations against ISIS in Puntland.

He called on the local community to support the allied forces to defeat Al-Shabaab in the central regions.

Jeyte, who is also a former long-serving governor, was appointed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in 2023 to lead the Community Defense Forces dubbed the Maawisley militia, which have been fighting along government forces against Al-Shabaab.
