GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: SIMAD University has awarded academic ranks to 35 of its lecturers, including 12 professors, nine associate professors and 14 assistant professors, in a move aimed at strengthening teaching and research standards in Somalia’s higher education sector.

The university announced the promotions during a ceremony in Mogadishu marking its 27th anniversary, attended by university officials, representatives of higher education institutions, academics and other guests.

SIMAD said the appointments followed an assessment conducted by independent experts from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The evaluation was based on East African higher education standards and the assessment framework of Somalia’s National Commission for Higher Education, according to the university.

The promotions represent an effort to strengthen academic capacity, improve research output and align Somali universities more closely with regional and international higher education standards.

The announcement comes as Somalia’s higher education sector continues to expand, with universities facing growing pressure to improve academic quality, research capacity and institutional recognition.

SIMAD University was established in 1999 and has grown into one of Somalia’s higher education institutions, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
