SNA Forces Thwart Al-Shabab Attack Near Mogadishu
MOGADISHU | GOOBJOOG NEWS: The Somali National Army Friday repelled an attempted attack at a military base by Al-Shabaab militants at the outskirts of Mogadishu.
Military sources said the militants carried out the attack targeting a base at Elasha Biyaha, approximately 15 kilometers south of the capital.
The sources said the government forces engaged the militants in a fierce gunfight, successfully repelling them and inflicting casualties.
However, the number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Media sources added that by Saturday morning, the situation in the area had stabilized, with government forces conducting security operations in the surrounding neighborhoods to eliminate remnants of the militants.
The latest attack comes just weeks after al-Shabab launched assaults on several military bases in the Jubbaland and Galmudug states.
In those encounters, Somali forces reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on the militant group.
