SNA Forces to Resume Operation Against Al-Shabaab, Army Commander Says
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali National Army commander Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin Addow Sunday said that government forces will resume military operations against the Al-Shabaab militants in south and central Somalia in the coming weeks.
The commander stated that the operations had paused due to the holy month of Ramadan.
“The national forces were on the defensive during Ramadan and increased the security of the areas they had previously liberated from the militants, but now the fighting will resume in coming weeks,” he said.
Major General Addow called upon the Somali people not to give any money to the group saying it will enable the militants to purchase weapons and use it wage war against the government.
On Thursday, the Somali National Army foiled an attempted attack by the Al-Shabaab militants at Bar Sangouni, close to Jamame district in the Lower Jubba region.
Somalia’s Ministry of Information said several members of the group were killed and others captured alive during the operation.
