Somali Defence Minister Hails Army’s Role in Anti-al-Shabaab Fight on 65th Anniversary

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: As the Somali National Army (SNA) marks 65 years since its founding, Defence Minister Jibriil Abdirashid Haji praised its frontline role in the fight against Al-Shabaab, calling for nationwide support for ongoing military operations.

The anniversary comes amid intensified offensives across southern and central Somalia, where SNA forces are leading efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s remaining strongholds.

“Our forces are heroes who put their lives on the line to defend our country, our faith, and our people. We honor their sacrifice, mourn our martyrs, and pray for the recovery of the wounde,” Minister Haji said.

Founded on April 12, 1960, the SNA has been central to Somalia’s struggle for stability. The Defence Minister emphasized that public unity and support are crucial to sustaining battlefield gains.

“It is a national duty to stand with our army as they liberate the country from the Khawarij enemy,” he said, referring to the militant group.

The message comes as the government ramps up its “Final Push” campaign, aiming to consolidate security ahead of key national reforms.
