Somali government forces end an hour-long assault on Halane camp
GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Somali government forces have ended an hour-long assault on Halane camp by Al-Shabaab terrorists who had stormed the base housing AMISOM, UN, western diplomatic missions, including the US embassy and international aid agencies working in Somalia.
Somali Police Force spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan issued a statement on the Halane camp attack where the upcoming presidential vote is expected to be held.
The Spokesperson said two gunmen who tried to force their way into the Army Base near the airport were neutralised by security forces particularly Turkish-trained forces, (Haramcad) led by Benadir regional police commander Farhan Qaroole.
The gunmen are reportedly said to have set fire on petrol stations nearby causing casualties and injuries. African Union peacekeepers are said to have incurred casualties although the exact number is yet unknown.
Meanwhile, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority Director General Ahmed Maalim, has said that normal operations are ongoing at Aden Abdulle Airport and that no flight has been canceled, as earlier reported.
Maalim has confirmed to media outlets that so far, three flights have left the facility amid the morning incident.
