Somali government “Las’Anod crises should end through Dialogue.”

La’anod turned into a hostile area after the war lasted the second day. Early morning of today again, clashes flared up between Somaliland and opposition clans in La’anod. Life and property casualties were reported, but the extent of the casualties left by the battle is yet to be fully affirmed.

Yesterday alone, approximately 20 died, and more others were injured in La’anod. The victims include a mother and her seven children.

Somaliland calls for peace and stability while accusing terrorist groups of being behind the acts of violence in the region.

“The council would like to tell the people of the republic of Somaliland and the international community that it stands for peace. The Somaliland government is prepared to resolve the situation in Las’Anod through dialogue and consensus.” Said in a statement issued by the Somaliland council of ministers.

On the other hand, Somalia president Hassan Shiekh Mohamud addressing people on the state media this morning before his departure to Italy emphasized the importance of peace and stability and restated that the only solution to the Las’anod’s case is dialogue and negotiation.

Mohamud sent condolence to the victims of the battle. “let us negotiate before many living today are killed on a cause of war. The solution to the crises is politically motivated. Put down the guns and silence them. Let’s sit down together and talk to save the life of our people.”

The president called on the elders and civil society in the region to stand for peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Somalia’s minister of interior Ahmed Moalim Fiqi briefing the media said that the government of Somalia on its side prefers unity and peace. “we want an agreement, but not through power and force”. Minister Fiqi.

The tension in Las’anid is volatile as both sides rearm to the teeth. Any minute delay to reach a lasting solution to end the deadlock might precipitate a new wave of clashes.
