Somali National Army Crushes Al-Shabaab Militants in Bakool Region Operation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | HUDDUR: The Somali National Army (SNA) has dealt a significant blow to the Al-Shabaab militant group in a decisive operation at Dhurey village, Waajid District, in the Bakool region.
The offensive, led by the 95th Unit of the 9th Brigade under the 60th Division, was launched based on credible intelligence indicating that Al-Shabaab militants were gathering in Dhurey to orchestrate attacks against civilians and destabilize public security.
According to Commander Ibrahim, SNA forces successfully repelled a terrorist assault from multiple directions, inflicting heavy losses and forcing the militants to flee.
“The strength of our forces and the precision of our operation thwarted Al-Shabaab’s plans. They were unable to withstand our offensive and had no choice but to retreat,” Ibrahim stated.
Dhurey village, located approximately 20 kilometers from Waajid District, sits along a key route connecting Baidoa and Waajid, making it a strategic point for militant activity. The operation not only dismantled Al-Shabaab’s immediate threats but also restored a sense of security in the area.
The Somali National Army has intensified counterterrorism efforts nationwide, particularly in regions where militants have sought to establish strongholds. The victory in Dhurey underscores the increasing strength and coordination of the SNA in its ongoing battle against terrorism.
Local residents expressed relief following the army’s successful intervention.
“We are grateful to the Somali National Army for protecting us from these terrorists,” said one villager. “Now, we can go about our lives without fear.”
As the SNA consolidates its gains in Bakool, military officials have vowed to continue operations aimed at eliminating Al-Shabaab and other extremist threats. Efforts will now focus on preventing militants from regrouping and launching further attacks, ensuring long-term stability in the region.
