Somali National University Inks China Agreements to Boost Education Sector
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali National University has signed cooperation agreements with Chinese institutions aimed at strengthening research and upgrading higher education.
A delegation led by Rector Mohamed Mohamud Mohamed concluded a visit to China with memorandums of understanding with HiSign Technology and the China-Africa Institute.
The agreements focus on joint research, academic exchanges and skills development, with an emphasis on strengthening science and technology training.
University officials said the partnerships are intended to improve the quality of higher education and better prepare graduates for a competitive global job market.
The move comes as Somalia seeks to rebuild its education sector after decades of conflict, with authorities increasingly turning to international partnerships to expand capacity and modernise institutions.
China has in recent years deepened its engagement in Africa’s education sector through scholarships, training programmes and research collaboration, part of broader efforts to strengthen ties across the continent.
Such partnerships are expected to help Somalia develop a more skilled workforce, though long-term impact will depend on sustained investment and effective implementation of academic reforms.
