PM Sharmake visits Kismayu amid souring relations between IJA and Mogadishu
A delegation led by Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali has on Sunday reached Kismayo, the administrative capital of Interim Jubba Administration.
The premier and his delegation was received by IJA leaders, MPs and traditional elders. The delegation is expected to hold talks with the leaders of IJA.
Though the agenda of the visit is not public yet, Sharmake’s visit could be a charm offensive following sour relations between the federal government and Jubbaland which rose after the federal parliament dismissed the legal status of Jubbaland assembly which was formed last month.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Islam Madobe and his Puntland counterpart Abdiweli Gas failed to attend the High Level Partnership Forum held in Mogadishu last month, a move that raised questions from among them the UN Special envoy for Somalia Nicholas Kay.
On 6th June this year, Interim Jubba Administration cut off all relations with Somali Federal Government the controversial
no-confidence motion in the newly formed IJA regional Assembly.
