Somali, Qatari Prime Ministers Agree to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | DOHA: Somalia and Qatar have agreed to deepen their bilateral relationship following talks between Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in Doha.
The meeting resulted in a shared commitment to expand cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries, according to the official Qatari account. The talks also provided an opportunity for Hamza to deliver a written message from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on ways to further deepen bilateral ties.
Hamza also thanked Qatar for its continued support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, while his counterpart praised Somalia’s recent progress.
The two leaders discussed Somalia’s economic and social development, security and stability, as well as international security challenges and their impact on global trade.
The talks reinforces Qatar’s position as a key Gulf partner for Somalia, with the two governments seeking to translate their close political relationship into broader cooperation and development. Qatar’s leadership had previously reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s state institutions, security and stability.
The meeting formed part of Hamza’s official visit to Qatar, which is aimed at strengthening strategic ties, particularly in economic cooperation and investment.
