GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Federal government security forces launched a major crackdown in parts of Mogadishu last night to ensure the security of the country’s capital.

The crackdown extended to vehicles and parts of Hodan district exclusively at the intersections, Shaqalaha, Howlwadag, Jid Marehan, Carwo Idko, Black Sea and Bakara intersections.

Howlwadag District Police Commander Major Najib Abdi Abib told reporters that the operation aimed at flushing out criminal gangs and to rid the city of illegal drug traffickers as the country prepares to usher in the holy month of Ramadan.

The Deputy Commander of Waliyow Adde Division, Major Ishaq Mohamed Isse, called on the public to collaborate with security forces, adding that the operation will go on day and night until their objective is met.

The ongoing crackdown comes at a time when security in Mogadishu has taken a steady downturn following numerous incidents including assassinations, bomb attacks and armed robberies.
