Somalia And Sudan Sign Diplomatic Visa Waiver Deal At Mogadishu Consultative Talks
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Sudan have signed a mutual agreement to exempt holders of diplomatic passports from entry visa requirements, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations and easing official engagement between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on April 2, 2026, on the sidelines of the second session of the Somalia–Sudan Political Consultative Committee, hosted in Mogadishu. The session was co-chaired by Hamza Adam Hado, Permanent Secretary at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Ambassador Moawia Othman Khaled, representing Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visa waiver is expected to facilitate smoother diplomatic exchanges and enhance cooperation between the two nations by enabling easier movement for senior government officials and envoys.
During the session, both delegations held extensive discussions focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors, including political engagement, economic partnerships, and education. The talks also emphasized strengthening capacity-building initiatives and enhancing coordination on regional and international issues of shared interest.
The meeting reflects growing diplomatic engagement between Mogadishu and Khartoum, as both governments seek to deepen collaboration and align positions on broader geopolitical and development priorities in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
Officials from both sides expressed commitment to sustaining the consultative mechanism as a platform for advancing mutual interests and reinforcing long-standing ties between the two countries.
