GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAKU: Somalia and Azerbaijan have signed a landmark agreement aimed at expanding educational cooperation, paving the way for greater academic collaboration and opportunities for Somali students, officials said on Wednesday.

The agreement, ratified by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, formalizes educational ties between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.

Signed in Baku on February 12, 2025, during Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s official visit, the deal is expected to enhance capacity-building, scholarships, and academic exchange programs.

Officials say the partnership will support Somali students in accessing higher education in Azerbaijan, improving educational infrastructure, and fostering knowledge-sharing between institutions in both countries.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Science and Education has been tasked with implementing the agreement’s provisions, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Somali government once all internal procedures are finalized.

The education deal was one of several agreements signed during a formal exchange ceremony attended by both presidents.
