GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Hundreds of Muslim believers in Mogadishu and other cities across Somalia Sunady joined the world in celebrating Eid-ul-adha.

Several top government officials also sent their well wishes to the Muslim Ummah, particularly the Somali people worldwide, as they mark eid- adha.

The celebration of Eid-ul-Adha is to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah and his readiness to sacrifice his son, Ismail.

The Feast of Sacrifice is one of Islam’s two most important holidays.

The holiday celebrates the time when Ibrahim had a dream which he believed was a message from Allah asking him to sacrifice his son Isma’il as an act of obedience to God.

The devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey Allah and spare his son.

As Ibrahim was about to kill his son, Allah stopped him and gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead.

The special day is marked with prayers as Muslims slaughter animals and share the meat with their neighbours, the poor or underprivileged and with those in need in remembrance of prophet Ibrahim’s act of selflessness.

Eid al-Adha marks the culmination of the hajj (pilgrimage) rites at Minā, of Saudi Arabia near Mecca, but is celebrated by Muslims globally throughout the world.
