Somalia Launches 2026–2030 Anti-Corruption Strategy to Strengthen Governance
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched a new national anti-corruption strategy covering the 2026–2030 period, aimed at strengthening governance systems and curbing misuse of public resources.
The strategy, unveiled in Mogadishu on April 15 by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, outlines responsibilities for federal and state institutions including the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, oversight bodies and civil society organisations.
It builds on the previous 2020–2023 framework and follows an end-term review and national corruption risk assessment that identified persistent challenges such as weak public financial management, limited accountability and capacity gaps in oversight institutions.
The plan was developed with support from the African Development Bank and aligns with Somalia’s obligations under the UN Convention against Corruption. It was refined through consultations held earlier this month based on a “zero draft” approach.
The strategy prioritises legal reforms, institutional strengthening, transparency measures and public awareness campaigns, while calling for closer coordination between federal and state authorities to improve implementation.
Officials said the draft will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval as Somalia continues broader efforts to improve governance and public sector integrity
