GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched a new national job portal aimed at tackling rising unemployment and boosting access to work opportunities for its youth, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said.

The digital platform — www.jobportal.gov.so — allows public institutions, private companies, and international organizations to advertise job openings free of charge. It also offers job seekers nationwide a centralized database to access vacancies and contract opportunities.

Officials say the initiative is a cornerstone of Somalia’s strategy to modernize its labor market and enhance workforce participation, especially among young people who face some of the highest unemployment rates in the region.

“This platform is designed to remove traditional barriers to employment and create a more transparent, accessible system for connecting job seekers with employers,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The portal is part of a broader government push to digitize public services and stimulate economic development through innovation. By simplifying recruitment processes and reducing costs for employers, the government hopes the platform will spur job creation and support long-term economic recovery.

Authorities are urging all organizations operating in Somalia to use the portal, highlighting its potential to reshape the country’s employment landscape and support inclusive growth.
