Somalia to Commence Drilling of Oil Sites in 2025, Petroleum and Minerals Minister Says

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has said it is in the final stage of exploration and potential drilling of oil in the country.

According to the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals Dr. Abdirsaaq Omar Mohamed, the move comes following a strategic agreement between Somalia and Turkey.

Mohamed revealed that a Turkish vessel is scheduled to arrive in September to conduct the final survey of potential drilling sites adding that the official commencement of oil drilling is slated for early 2025.

The minister also highlighted Somalia’s impending membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is expected to yield substantial benefits for the country.

The announcement marks a pivotal step towards harnessing Somalia’s natural resources which will significantly contribute to the country’s economy.

This development demonstrates Somalia’s commitment to advancing its energy sector and leveraging international partnerships for economic growth.
