Puntland Agriculture minister succumbs to COVID-19

Puntland Minister for Environment and Agriculture Ismail Diriye Gama’diid died Monday in Mogadishu after testing positive for COVID-19 becoming the second regional official to die of the disease.

According to Puntland President Abdullahi Deni, the minister succumbed to the disease in Mogadishu after he was transferred from Garowe to Mogadishu.

Deni described the minister as a fine scholar and leader who had contributed immensely for ‘the people and the country.

HirShabelle justice minister Khalif Mumin died became the first regional minister to die of the disease after being admitted in Mogadishu.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Puntland as of May 21 had reached 170 with six deaths.

On 1st April 2020, Former Somali Prime Minister, Nur Hassan Hussein popularly known as Nur Adde died of coronavirus in London at the age of 83 years.

The  number of COVID-19 cases in Somalia has since reached  1594.
