Foreign Affairs Minister Urges Stronger Protection for Citizens during Libya Visit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | TRIPOLI: Federal government of Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Abdisalam Ali has called for enhanced efforts to protect Somali nationals in Libya during an official visit to the country’s embassy in Tripoli.
The minister met with Ambassador Abdi Aden Diriye and embassy staff, receiving briefings on the situation of Somali citizens, including migrants and detainees facing difficult conditions.
Abdisalam urged the mission to strengthen consular services and prioritise support for vulnerable nationals, stressing the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad.
He said efforts should focus on improving legal assistance, protection measures and coordination with local authorities to address the challenges facing Somalis in Libya.
The visit is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to improve diplomatic services and respond to the needs of its diaspora.
Libya remains a key transit route for migrants attempting to reach Europe, with many Somali nationals facing risks including detention, exploitation and unsafe conditions.
Strengthening embassy support is critical to addressing these challenges and ensuring the safety and rights of Somali citizens overseas.
