Somaliland accuses UN representatives James swan for including UN electoral process plan in Somalia
Somaliland released a press statement on Saturday accused UN representatives James swan for including UN electoral process plan for Somalia in 2020
“The government of the Republic of Somaliland condemns the SRSG statement as both provocative interference in Somaliland’s sovereign Self governors as well as a demonstration of disrespect towards the country’s democratic process and progress to date since regaining independence from Somalia on 18 May 1991. Somaliland has established soundtrack record for holding successive democratic election involving both the institutionalization of one person and one vote election and peaceful transfer of power between elected leaders” said the statement.
According to Somaliland such politicization of SRSG intervention can raise tension high and hurt the relationship between Somaliland and Somalia.
Somaliland calls the international community to avoid any action that risks defaming Somaliland electoral integrity, independence and sovereignty.
