Somaliland Elections: Neck and neck as district council results trickle in

GOOBJOOG NEWS|SOMALILAND: Preliminary results for district council elections in Somaliland have trickled in with the ruling party Kulmiye bagging majority seats as the opposition Waddani and UCID hold on closer.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) released provisional results from five districts by Wednesday evening. In Lughaya, the ruling party Kulmiye led with five seats while Waddani and UCID got two seats each.

In the ancient district of Selyac in the southwestern part of Somaliland, the three parties levelled out with Kulmiye and Waddani bagging four seats each while UCID had three setas.

A similar scenario was replicated in Sallahley where Kulmiye and Waddani both had four seats while UCID got three seats. Kulmiye and Waddani tied with four seats each in Gar-Adag followed closely with three seats by UCID with three seats.

In Huddun, Kulmiye opened a wide lead with seven seats followed by Waddani with two seats while UCID did not get any seat.
