Somaliland caucus wraps up election of 46 lawmakers
GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The State Elections Implementation Team of the northern regions of Somaliland has today concluded Lower House elections in the House of the People of the 11th parliament.
Parliamentary elections for the Northern Regions which began on November 1, 2021, has seen the election of a total of 46 MPs of the two houses of parliament representing Somaliland, with Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled (Khadar) being the first member of parliament to be elected in Mogadishu.
The last three seats in the Northern Regional Parliament were held today with the first seat,
HOP#243 seat, previously held by former Deputy Prime Minister Mohamed Omar Carte Qalib, was today won by Samsam Muhumed Omar. Samsam received 98 votes with two abstentions, while her rival, Dallays Ali Ibrahim, withdrew from the race.
Mohamed Ibrahim Abdi, retained his seat, HOP#206 after receiving a total of 100 votes while his rival, Maryam Ibrahim Abdullahi, withdrew from the race.
The last seat, HOP#259 was won again by former Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Idan Yonis after serving for a few years in the same seat.

The Prime Minister commended the Somaliland Electoral Commission (SEIT) and the Federal Electoral Commission for their exemplary work in expediting and concluding the elections on time, calling on regional governments to observe the February 25 deadline and deliver credible and transparent elections to the Somali people.
