Somaliland’s ruling Kulmiye picks Mohamed Kahin as chairman, Bihi to defend seat in 2024 poll
GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: Somaliland’s ruling Kulmiye party has elected long-serving politician and current interior minister Mohamed Kahin Ahmed as the new chairman who replaces President Muse Bihi.
At a party convention in the capital Hargeisa, delegates picked Kahin to lead the party as it prepares for elections next year. Bihi was however retained as the party’s flag bearer in the December 2024 elections.
Kahin who is among the founding politicians of Somaliland has long been touted as Bihi’s successor. Bihi described Kahin as the ‘most worthy candidate’ for the party’s leadership noting he had served the people of Somaliland for many years.
Mohamud Hassan Saajin was elected vice chairman of the party. Bihi’s term in office was set to lapse in November this year but the House of Elders (Guurti) voted to add him two more years in office last October.
