GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAYDHABO: The Interim Leader of Southwest State, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, has called for a renewed and intensified push to stabilize the region, urging security forces to scale up operations against militant groups and consolidate recent gains on the ground.

Speaking during a high-level security meeting in Baydhabo, Haji emphasized that the current moment requires decisive action to secure lasting peace, particularly in areas recently affected by insecurity. He instructed security commanders to move beyond defensive measures and actively pursue operations that dismantle remaining threats and prevent regrouping by armed elements.

The Interim Leader noted that while progress has been made in weakening insurgent networks, the situation remains fragile, especially in rural and transit corridors that are critical for movement between key areas in the region. He stressed that securing these areas is essential not only for public safety but also for restoring economic activity and freedom of movement.

Haji also underscored the importance of coordination between federal and regional forces, highlighting that unity of command and intelligence-sharing are vital to sustaining momentum. He praised the sacrifices of the Somali National Army, police forces, and local Darawish units, stating that their efforts have created an opportunity to transition from reactive operations to long-term stabilization and governance.

The remarks come amid ongoing security operations across South West State, where government forces have in recent months stepped up efforts to reclaim territory and reopen strategic supply routes, including roads linking Mogadishu and Baidoa. These operations are part of a broader national campaign to weaken militant groups and expand state authority.

He concluded by reiterating that achieving sustainable peace will require not only military pressure but also strengthened local administration, community engagement, and continued public support, urging all stakeholders to play their part in securing the future of South West State.
