Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security of the Chairperson of the AU Commission meets ministers in Mogadisho
Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Ms. Bineta Diop of Senegal has visited Somalia.
She plans on having a dialogue with the federal government of Somalia , Somali Women policy makers, civil society and other stakeholders on their experiences and aspirations on the best ways of curbing challenges that face women and children.
Ms. Bineta has taken closed meeting with ministers for defense, health, interior and federalism and states minister of foreign affairs.
The minister and the special envoy discussed the ties between AMISOM and strengthening the capability of Somali national army
“ Iam very glad to be here as special envoy of madam Zuma on women, peace and security, I want to thank the government of Somalia for the warm welcome
She was accompanied by the ambassador of Namibia to African Union and also sitting at peace and security at Security Council and activist from East Congo” she said.
“Our mission is really to make sure we listen we listen to the different actors” she added.
Ms. Bineta also stated that one of her objectives to Somalia is to sit and listen AMISOM troops in the country and give them issues that will help prevent for the future to protect the civilian and to make sure they fulfill the mandate.
“ We are here of congratulating them but in the meantime making sure that they could take preventive measure for the civilian particularly the women and the girls” Ms.Bineta.
