SSC welcomes Guled’s appointment to lead Somalia-Somaliland talks

GOOBJOOG NEWS|LAS’ANOD: The SSC-Khatumo faction has welcomed the appointment of former Galmudug President Abdikarim Guled to lead the long-running talks between Somalia and Somaliland.

The Sool Sanaag and Cayn (SSC-Khatumo) Consultative Committee also thanked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for ‘his efforts to find a solution for the Somaliland issue.’ The Committee further reiterated its position that it is and will not be part of Somaliland but instead ‘believe the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia is sacrosanct.’

President Mohamud picked Guled on Saturday to lead the talks which collapsed in have been running for about a decade now. The last round in June 2020 collapsed after Somaliland President Muse Bihi insisted that the talks be based on a ‘two-state process.’

Critical for the talks will be the resolution of the deadly fighting in Las’anod that has been ongoing for about 50 days now. Over 200 people have been killed and over 600 more injured as Somaliland forces battled the SSC militia.
