Tension builds up in Garowe amid row over constitutional review
GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Tension is building up today in Garowe following the massing up of forces opposed to the planned review of the constitution by President Abdullahi Deni’s administration.
Sources said soldiers opposed to the administration were seen in parts of the capital Garowe with additional reports saying gunfire could be heard.
The forces are reportedly opposed to plans to review the constitution which President Deni has been accused of seeking to extend his stay in office through the process. His term will lapse on January 9 after five years reign.
Garowe has witnessed tensions in the last couple of months especially in the lead up to the district council elections which took place early this month.
