The Upper House postpones a critical bill

The Somali Upper Council voted to adjourn the temporary financial section bill. On Saturday, Somali senators debated for the second time the financial section bill, which the lower chamber passed in early February.

Members of parliament tabled about the controversial bill, which makes it necessary to ask for more time to approve it.

The Congress’ deputy chairman calls for a vote on whether or not to proceed with the bill’s debate. The majority voted to give members more time to review the bill and decide whether it was viable to vote on.

In addition, hear the first reading of the financial procedure for underground recourse, which also got the approval of the lower chamber.

Elmi Mohamud Nor, the finance minister of Somalia, demanded that the senators pass both bills.

“The financial section bill and the financial procedure of the underground resource bill are two important laws for fighting terrorism and sharing resources; we appreciate the chamber’s approval of both bills.” Added his speech.

The state is on the offensive against the Al-Shabaab militants, and the president has vowed to fight terrorist financing activities in the country.

Somalia wishes to produce oil and gas. In February 2022, the Somali government and a US company signed an oil exploration agreement in Istanbul.
