GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: A U.S. airstrike in coordination with Somali forces has killed multiple Islamic State (ISIS) militants in northern Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said on Saturday.

According to a statement by AFRICOM, the strike targeted an ISIS hideout southeast of Bosaso in the Puntland region.

While the exact number of casualties was not disclosed, an initial assessment indicated that several operatives were eliminated, with no civilian casualties reported.

“AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, our forces, and our civilians abroad,” the statement read.

ISIS-Somalia, a local offshoot of the Islamic State group, operates primarily in Puntland’s mountainous terrain and has been involved in attacks against civilians and extortion activities in the region.
