U.S. Reaffirms Strong Support for Somalia’s Fight Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The United States has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Somalia’s efforts to combat terrorist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab, which continues to pose a major security threat across the Horn of Africa.
In a recent teleconference, U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley, Joint Special Operations Task Force Somalia Commander Colonel Norris, and Hirshabelle State President Ali Gudlawe Hussein discussed ongoing security operations in Middle Shabelle.
U.S. officials commended Somali security forces for their intensified efforts against Al-Shabaab and highlighted significant financial, military, and humanitarian assistance aimed at bolstering the country’s counterterrorism operations.
“We honor the brave defense forces defending Somalia. Now is the time for all Somalis to unite against a common enemy,” read a statement from U.S. officials.
Somali forces have been engaged in extensive military campaigns to reclaim key strategic areas in Middle Shabelle that were previously under Al-Shabaab’s control.
The United States has been a key partner in these stabilization efforts, providing funding for the Somali National Army and supporting critical humanitarian initiatives to assist civilians displaced by conflict.
This latest discussion signals a continued commitment from the U.S. to strengthening Somalia’s security institutions and reinforcing counterterrorism efforts as the country works toward lasting peace and stability.
