GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The United States government has reaffirmed its commitment to support the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance security across the country.

During a meeting with the Somali Police Chief Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi in Mogadishu Monday, US Ambassador to Somalia Ambassador Richard H. Riley said his country will continue collaborating with the government in addressing the ongoing security challenges in the country.

The two sides particularly discussed efforts to address challenges posed by the Al-Shabaab militant group by enhancing the capability of the Somali police force and planning the transition of security responsibilities from the African Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to local police forces.

While highlighting the strong partnership between Somalia and the United States, both leaders emphasized the critical role of the US in supporting Somalia’s efforts to stabilize and secure its territories.

Brigadier General Abdullahi highlighted the importance of international collaboration in the fight against terrorism and the necessity of building a robust police force capable of maintaining order and safety.

Ambassador Riley at the same time reiterated the US’s total support for Somalia’s sovereignty and its commitment to aiding in the transition process as ATMIS phases out.
