US threatens to cut aid to Somalia
The United States threatened to cut aid to Somalia if the political in-fighting between Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Prime minister of federal government abdiweli sheikh Ahmed don’t solve their differences systematically.
The rift between the top leaders erupted after PM Abdiweli reshuffled some of his cabinet late last month, a move which president clearly rejected and described it as unconstitutional.
Concerned about the political turmoil in Somalia the United States underlined that it does not see the utility in sending a delegation to the High Level Partnership Forum on Somalia, which is expected to open in Copenhagen to review progress under the New Deal.
The US pays a large budget to federal Government of Somalia and African Union peace-keeping in the country backing the government’s fight against Al-shabab.
