GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Puntland Vice President Ahmed Karash has announced he is taking charge as president following President Abdullahi Deni’s travel to Mogadishu for presidential campaigns.
Karash said in a statement he had taken the decision to avoid a constitutional vacuum. “I hereby declare to the people of Puntland that the country cannot enter a constitutional vacuum, at this
critical time as the people are struggling with widespread drought, economic hardship and youth unemployment in Puntland,” Karash said.
He added that the assumption of the presidency was only temporary and was not meant to unseat the current Puntland Head of State.
However, there was no immediate comment from Deni or any of the officials in the presidency.
