A woman who was six months pregnant miscarried after a police officer allegedly kicked her in the belly in Mbita locality.
Hilder Sigunyu, 21, said an officer from Mbita police station kicked her while forcing her into a van.
Sigunyu said the incident occurred amid the arrest of several women for washing clothes on the shores of Lake Victoria on Sunday.
“One of the police officers kicked my belly when I was delayed from getting into their vehicle. I could not enter immediately because of my pregnancy,” she said.
Speaking to journalists in Mbita on Thursday, Sigunyu said she suffered abdominal injuries and was rushed to Mbita District Hospital.
She said tests revealed that the foetus had died.
“I was later operated on because there was no other option. I lost my unborn baby that way,” she said.
When contacted on Thursday, area OCPD Wilson Wanga said he had not received reports of the incident.
He however said that the matter would be investigated and the culprit brought to book.
