GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAIDOA: The Ministry of Interior, Local Government, and Reconciliation of the South West State has officially appointed Abdirahman Ibrahim Aden, commonly known as “Sate,” as the new Governor of the Bay region and Mayor of Baidoa.

The ministerial decree, issued and effective as of April 25, 2026, formalizes the leadership transition in the strategic city. The regional administration of Bay has been directed to facilitate a smooth handover process to ensure the new mayor can immediately assume his administrative and security responsibilities.

The appointment comes as the administration relieves Abdullahi Ali Watin of his duties. Watin, who was previously considered a close ally of South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen,” had served in the role during a period of significant regional developments.

Local political analysts note that the timing of this leadership change is particularly significant. The dismissal follows reports that the Federal Government of Somalia recently detained the former mayor, Abdullahi Ali Watin—a move that has sparked considerable political debate and speculation across the country.

As the administrative capital of South West State, Baidoa remains a focal point for security and humanitarian efforts. The new appointment is expected to bring a shift in the city’s governance and security strategies as the region navigates complex relations between the state and federal authorities.
