ATMIS imposes total lockdown on Halane camp from April 25-28 citing security operations

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has announced plans to conduct a security exercise inside the Halane camp in Mogadishu from Monday, April 25 to Thursday, 28 April 2022.

A statement issued by ATMIS said the decision to conduct the exercise was reached in consultation the Office of the Somali Prime Minister, adding that total lockdown of the camp would be imposed to ensure that the exercise is conducted safely and without interference.

According to ATMIS, Airport operations will not be affected by the ongoing operation and travelers will continue to be facilitated through Airport gate, although movements in the vicinity of the Airforce Hangar will be limited.

The operation by ATMIS coincides with the election of speakers of both houses of the Somali Federal Government, with election of Upper House Speakers scheduled for April 26 while that of the Lower House is set for April 27.
