ATMIS releases statement on the death of civilian run over by convoy

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has issued a press release on Wednesday’s incident where a civilian was hit in an Atmis convoy at Elasha Biyaha in the Lower Shabelle region.

The victim, a young man, is said to have crossed between two armoured vehicles, where he was knocked down by the convoy heading to the Somali capital.

The information further said that a rowdy crowd immediately blocked the road and pelted the convoy with stones, necessitating the intervention of local authorities.

According to ATMIS, the injured civilian was rushed to the hospital and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while receiving urgent medical care.

The African Union Mission in Somalia has condoled with the family of the deceased and has  assured the public that  thorough investigations are currently on course and that findings will be presented to a Board of Inquiry.
