Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Banadir Regional Court has adjourned the hearing of the case against activist Sacdiyo Macallin Cali, widely known as Sacdiyo Bajaaj, after the prosecution failed to present complete details and sufficient evidence relating to the charges she faces.

Defence lawyer Abuukaate Xalane, who is representing Sacdiyo Bajaaj, told the court that proceedings had been obstructed by the prosecution’s failure to bring forward adequate information clearly defining the nature of the case and the specific charges being levelled against the defendant.

Counsel noted that the country’s constitution guarantees every accused person and their legal representative the right to fully understand the charges brought against them, and that the defence is entitled to request a review or adjournment of proceedings where sufficient information has not been provided.

Sacdiyo Bajaaj is reported to be facing charges related to incitement of the public. She had been held in detention before being brought before the Banadir Regional Court.

No official date has been announced for when the hearing will resume. The prosecution is expected to use the intervening period to prepare the evidence and documentation required to proceed with the case.
