Barawe district commissioner escapes bomb attack in his office
Barawe district commissioner Hussein Barre Mohamed Saturday morning survived a bomb attack after an explosive device blew up as he tried to access his office.
Speaking exclusively to Goobjoog News from his bed in an Amisom controlled hospital in Barawe, Lower Shabelle, Mohamed said the explosion went off as he opened the door to his office.
“Just when I opened the door to my office this morning a huge explosion ripped through the door and injured my left arm. Someone must have planned to kill me,” Mohamed.
Mohamed said the office was destroyed but he only suffered a minor injury.
Barawe was liberated from the militant group Al-Shabaab last year by a joint Amisom and Somali National Army, SNA in the Indian Ocean Operation. The operation was a major success for the allied forces since the town was one of the last strongholds for Al-Shabaab revenue after the Kismayo conduit was cut off in 2012.
